WWW Virtual Library:

This really is a world class library at your fingertips. Some of the pages are on the organization's site, but many are housed at various other organizations and universities around the world. Before you cite that internet resource, give some thought to its credibility. This site contains many suggestions and some activities to help you carefully examine the source of the information, as well as some useful sites and other information.

Reference Desk:

A very comprehensive site. I like the section of news media links.

Visual Thesaurus:

To create an online experience that is both an exploration of the English language and a demonstration of Plumb Design's Thinkmap™ software, Plumb Design created the Plumb Design Visual Thesaurus. An engaging experience in language and interface, the Visual Thesaurus is an artistic exploration that is also a learning tool.You need Java enabled to use this site.

Virtual Search Engines:

More than the name implies. The site contains all the standard search engines and then some, each with a description of what the engine does best.

A Collection of (Mainly) Special Search Engines:

This site also contains searching tips, a how-to on making your own web page searchable, and reference materials. It has links to all the standard search engines you've heard of, as well as many, many more that are subject specific and/or searchable directories. There are literally hundreds of links to information on web searching as well as the search links themselves. A very informative and comprehensive site. 224K makes it a bit of a download.

Noodle Tools:

Contains NoodleBib, an online bibliography composer you can use on the fly, and NoodleQuest - the place to start your research.

Multnomah County (Oregon) Library:

More than books. Includes links to Multnomah County Government, technology training, grants information and much more. Browse through their own list of selected reference sites.

The Medical College of Georgia online reference page. An wide variety of categories to search through.

National Coalition of Independent Scholars:

Formed to facillitate the work of independent Scholars and support other organizations of similar bent, and encourage the on line sharing and publishing of information among independent scholars. Among other items, the site contains a listing of other Internet Resources for Scholars.

Internet Public Library:

Geared to student users. Buttons for teens, youth, and a Dewey Decimal Guide to internet resources for kids. Sponsored by the School of Information at the University of Michigan.

School Librarian Web Pages:
