View of the head of the engine showing typical late-war markings of Willys Overland jeep engines. This is a four-cylendar side-valve L-head engine; a real work horse!

Note also the broken stud for mounting the thermostat housing and the use of external-internal star washers for some of the head mounting bolts and studs. This is deemed necessary generally when an electrical ground is required and deemed improper by jeep judgeing standards but this image clearly shows that they were used for this purpose when the engine was rebuilt at Karlsfeld. Interesting!!!!

The shiny-green fluid surounding the base of the spark plugs is oil. It was put there by me to preclude the introduction of rain water into the cylendar heads.
